We aim to cater for all running abilities, whether you’re completely new to running, returning to it, working towards a marathon or just want to run with others socially.
We have runners who have joined us never having run a race but have gone on to achieve marathon distances and runners who don’t wish to do distances or races but run purely for the social element.
Most of our members are registered individually with England Athletics, which means they are part of a nationwide community of athletes. This also gives members access to a range of benefits and services including some promotional discounts.
Our club runs take place each Thursday evening. We meet at Methley Working Men’s Club on Pinfold Lane, LS26 9AA (see below map for directions) and group runs begin at approximately 7pm with a gentle start to warm up. Members can stay for post-run drinks at the club afterwards.
We post our weekly groups in advance on our members only app, so that runners can choose their group. A typical week’s session includes:
- 5K group: running at 12 min+ per mile with an option to add an extra mile.
- 4 mile group: running at 11-12 minutes per mile.
- 5 mile group: running at 10-11 minutes per mile.
- 6 mile group: running at 9-10 minutes per mile.
- Pack run group: a faster / longer run with distance and pace agreed by the group
In addition to the above, from time to time we offer trail runs, head torch runs, social runs and we run a couch to 5k programme on a regular basis. We have a grand prix competition that takes place over the year for some friendly competition.
In addition to Thursday club sessions, members have access to a weekly hill and speed session run by a member and former coach. These take place on Tuesday evenings in Pontefract / Castleford with a small charity donation each week.
We are also part of the following leagues:
West Yorkshire Winter League – a team event over eight races during November to February of each year for first and second claim members. This league describes itself as not your usual ‘around-the-field-eight-times’ cross-country racing, but proper mud, sweat, hills, thrills & spills trail running.
Yorkshire Veterans’ Athletics Association which promotes athletics events for over-35s in Track & Field, Road, Multi-terrain, Cross Country, and Fell. Find out more at https://www.yvaa.org/
We also offer other social events ranging from weekend social club runs which often end with a post run pub as well as our annual awards presentation night where we recognise runners’ success and members’ contributions to the club. Every year one member gets the prestigious club person of the year award voted, which is always voted for by the other members.
