Whatever your ability, whether you are someone who has always wanted to give running a go, but never quite done so or an experienced runner looking for company, inspiration or knowledge Methley Striders is a truly inclusive club you’ll want to be part of.
We offer an trial period for brand new members so you can try before you buy. Email us at methleystriders@gmail.com so we can tell you more about how to register for a trial.
Our membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March. We offer 3 types of membership.
First claim
You will be registered as England Athletics (EA) individual athlete by us. Part of your membership fee is paid directly to EA and this brings benefits such as reduced entry fees on most races, access to extra support from EA, and discounts in some stores and with some online retailers. Find out more at https://www.englandathletics.org/take-part/athlete-registration/benefits/
You can enter any team races that require individual EA affiliation such as cross-country leagues.
You can enter all our club competitions, where you may win a trophy at our annual presentation night. You can enter our London Club place ballot provided you meet all other relevant eligibility criteria.
For 25/26 (1 April 2025 onwards), our first claim membership is £35, or £30 for members who are aged 60+ or students (with valid student ID). £20 of this fee is paid directly to England Athletics for your individual athlete affiliation.
If you join us after 1 October, our membership fee reduces to £27.50 for 6 months membership, again with £20 of this paid directly to England Athletics.
Second claim
Your will already be a member of a running club and your first claim club will pay your individual EA affiliation fee for you.
You can come to weekly training and attend other social club events.
You can enter our club Grand Prix and any other club competitions. Methley Kit must be worn for a Grand Prix race.
You are not eligible to enter our London marathon club place ballot.
Some team race organisers and EA rules only allow you to run for your first claim club – you will need to check.
Social membership
You are not an individual EA athlete but are a member of our club. Our club is separately affiliated to EA too.
You can come to weekly training and attend other social club events.
You cannot enter any races that need EA individual affiliation, and you are not eligible to enter our club Grand Prix (you can still run these races) or our London marathon club place ballot. You cannot use your EA membership number to get the affiliated discount when entering races as your EA number can only be used once you have paid EA the individual athlete fee for the racing year. However, you can become a full member at any time by paying the EA individual affiliation fee.
For 25/26, our social membership is £20. If you join us after 1 October, our membership fee reduces to £10 for 6 month membership.
All members
For our EA club public liability insurance to cover you, you will need to be a fully signed up member who has paid their membership fees or registered on a trial. Both require forms to be completed to trigger the cover. You can find out more about our insurance cover at UK Athletics (marshsport.co.uk)
